How to Choose A Cosmetic Surgeon

Aesthetic cosmetic surgery can change the way you look and feel about yourself. But like any other type of surgery, quality surgery must be performed by a qualified, certified professional. So how can you make an informed choice about your surgical care?

There are three important points to look for.
  1. Make sure your surgeon is board certified. The American Board of Plastic Surgery is the only Board recognized by the American Medical Association's Board of Medical Specialists in the practice of plastic surgery on the entire body. This means surgeons certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery have received the extensive and required surgical training in their specialty.

  2. If you're going to have a procedure done in an office setting, make sure your surgeon is also certified to perform the same surgery in a hospital setting. This ensures your surgeon's credentials have been approved and verified by a recognized credentialing body.

  3. Check the credentials of your surgeon and find out where he or she trained, what kind of training was received and in which procedures. By understanding the background and credentials of your cosmetic surgeon, you empower yourself to make an educated decision.
